About
I’ve been in business since 2007 but am now defining what I want Borrowed Kitchen to be. I had started offering meals to seniors in Rural PE and catering, and then my business quickly turned in to providing hot lunches at local elementary schools, and selling baked goods at two local markets. In the summer months I had a roadside stand “The Sugar Shack”. While the school programs were good for business, it took me a lot of years to realize (and the many ripple effects of the Covid-19 pandemic) it wasn’t what I really wanted to do.
I remember the moment three months in to the pandemic when I went back to my kitchen and baked up a storm. Opening the big confection oven and seeing the 5 racks of cinnamon rolls, cookies, pies, donuts, and biscuits brought a smile to my face. That was the moment it clicked…I should be baking full time. Now when I look back on my life, I remember moments in time baking….a specially decorated “Witch” cake made for me by my mother, baking cake mix cakes, and many more wonderful baking memories. As well, as a teenager I sold homemade muffins at my father’s convenience store/gas station, made a Gingerbread House with a friend as a fund raiser for our school band , baked special family gingerbread people for our family at Christmas time. Baking has always been a passion of mine and at the age of 35 I decided it was time for me to go back to school and I enrolled in the Pastry Program at Holland College, Tourism and Culinary Centre.
So here I am years later, doing what I love, baking yummy things….bread, biscuits, rolls, scones, cinnamon rolls, donuts, cookies, squares, cakes, pies and more. I use fresh and local ingredients as much as possible and I am “in tune with the seasons” for local ingredients. Love what you do and do what you love! Thank you for checking out Borrowed Kitchen!

My love of baking began baking along side of my amazing mother, Carol. She taught me from an early age how to bake. I use many of her recipes at Borrowed Kitchen and am grateful she pointed me in this direction. And I imagine my thinking “if you can bake a good pie, you are a good baker” came from my wonderful taste-tester father, Bruce, who always loved a good pie!
